VAMFF Campaign Launch

As far as fashion events go, VAMFF - Virgin Australia Melbourne Fashion Festival - is undoubtedly a highlight in Melbourne's annual calendar. Although it's still in March, VAMFF held its campaign launch, with sneak peeks of what to expect from the 2015 program. On the cards? A Business Events series that will see leading international names give riveting talks, runway shows which will conclude with a Romance Was Born finale (coinciding with the closing of its exhibition at NGV), and a new collaboration with Priceline Pharmacy whereby brands will be applied by makeup director Rae Morris and hair director Kenneth Stoddart. One must-have ticket? The business seminar will feature David Chu (CEO of Georg Jensen), Ruth Chapman (co-founder of booming luxury e-tailer, MatchesFashion) and James Curleigh (President and Executive Vice-President of Levi's). And just to get the launch night revved up, guests were greeted by a fashion army as they entered the warehouse space that held the launch party.

Waterford Crystal Polo in the City - Melbourne

Given the blustery conditions in Melbourne this past weekend, it's hard to believe that the Waterford Crystal Polo in the City was held only the week before, under beautiful - and very warm! - conditions. The event is a Melbourne favourite - hot on the heels of the Melbourne Spring Racing Carnival, it's a good way to revisit that excitement, minus the uncomfortable shoes and in-your-face dresses. Instead, attendees to Polo in the City are encouraged to keep to the smart casual dress code, and are especially warned that spiky heels are a no-go zone. Structured millinery is out, too - if you see any hats, it's of the straw/ sunhat variety. As such, the Land Rover Polo Club had straw hats at the ready for those who walked into their marquee, which featured a garden gazebo with topiary and manicured hedges. Guests included Megan Gale and Shaun Hampson, Rebecca and Chris Judd, and Chyka and Bruce Keebaugh. Over at the Pol Roger champagne marquee, Natalie Decorte (the very glamorous wife of Polo in the City founder Janek Gazecki, and herself brand manager of Polo in the City) managed to look glorious, despite having the care of her two youngsters - their first time at the polo - to distract her from champagne-sipping.

Launch of All-New Mazda2

In a warehouse space, on the outskirts of the city, guests to the All-New Mazda2 launch climbed the stairs of a warehouse space only to be greeted by neon lights and DJ music, that combined cutting-edge technology with a party vibe. Hosted by Lauren Phillips, the cars sat alongside fashion installations by Myer designers, including Ellery, White Suede, Arthur Galan and Aurelio Costarello. But despite the buzz, all went quiet when The Voice 2014 winner Anja Nissen took to the stage. Turns out a booming voice trumps the roar of an engine very time. (photos by Lucas Dawson)

Gault&Millau Melbourne & Sydney Restaurant Guide Launch

When the 2015 Gault&Millau Melbourne and Sydney Restaurant Guide  launched, it put Australia's two top foodie cities on par with those in Europe, showcasing this side of the world's culinary culture. At the launch party, held at Two Ton Max in North Melbourne, it was a French-style soiree theme - canapes included French onion soup shots and snails. Renowned chef Jacques Reymond was there to kick off festivities, and other chefs and restaurateurs in the crowd included Geoff Lindsay (Dandelion), Cory Campbell (Vue de Monde), Benjamin Cooper (Chin Chin), Joe Grbac (Saint Crispin), Daniel Wilson (Huxtable) and Christian McCabe (The Town Mouse). Happy eating!

Desigual Launch

Oh, the Spanish do know how to throw a party, if the launch one for Desigual was any indication. But what do you expect, from a fashion label that boasts supermodel Adrian Lima as its face? Melbourne is the first city in Australia to land the label, but there are plans to roll out more stores next year. The idea behind it is that it delivers fashion forward clothes to women of all sizes. Judging by the in-store models who paraded around at the Melbourne bash, the clothes are just as good in micro-sizes, since they soon got into Desigual bikinis. No wonder their slogan is: La Vida es Chula - life is cool.

Who is not going to buy from this woman? Adrian Lima does a good job in this campaign shoot.
