Mövenpick Launch at QV

Seriously, is there anyone who can say no to an ice cream launch, especially when said ice cream is Swisse's Mövenpick? I thought not, and I wasn't alone: for a bleary Melbourne afternoon, a crowd of people turned up and wouldn't leave. (And it wasn't just the kids who were glued to their seats.)  Now in QV, there's no reason not to go.

Emirates Marquee Launch

Every year, Emirates hosts a marquee that's considered le creme de la creme: the cornerstone of elegance and sophistication within Flemington's famed Birdcage enclosure. And each year, a different theme runs through it, based on destinations of the airline. A party kicked off in a South Melbourne penthouse for this year's winner: Dubai. As suited that locale, the room was opulent and privileged, and an abundance of tasty morsels and delectable cocktails were passed around as guests enjoyed the dancing of Arabic dancer Aya, as well as patting the falcons (really!) on hand. The dazzling guest list suited, too: many of the cast of the upcoming Real Housewives of Melbourne were there (and boy, there sure are a lot of cameras that film those gals), as were Brynne and Geoffrey Edelsten, Melanie Vallejo, Nathan and Tania Buckley, model Samantha Downie and Ann Peacock. With that preview, who can wait until cup carnival?

West Elm Melbourne Store Launch

West Elm, the US home furnishings  brand, has landed in Melbourne, and what a splash it has made. Not only is it in a gorgeous, two-storey heritage building on Chapel Street, but it's the first stand-alone store to open outside North America. To celebrate, there was a bang-up, kick-up-your-heels party; Craig Nomura, the senior vice president of Williams-Sonoma, did the honors, and MC was Megan Morton, guru of crafting and homewares, who flew in from Sydney. No wonder the crowd included interiors author Jason Grant, The Design Files' Lucy Feagins and newly-minted Real Housewife of Melbourne, Chyka Keebaugh.

Captain Baxter Summer Menu Launch

When Captain Baxter sent a message in a bottle - invitations to a lunch came wrapped, scroll-like, in a glass vessel with cork - plenty of people were on hand to celebrate. Guests who supped on the delicious morsels set against a sea-side view were Brodie Young, model Samantha Downie, Totally Wild’s Natalie Hunter and Kylie Smith, The Block’s Dani Wales and Dan Reilly and Big Brother evictees, Caleb Geppert, Jasmin Bell, Rohan Mirchandaney and Xavier Holland. There to perform was Australia’s Got Talent Semi-Finalist Angel Tairau - guests sat open-mouthed as they listened to her beautiful rendition of a Rihanna song, not believing that she's just 13. (I cornered her in the bathroom to tell her she was going to go far.)

Celebrating their new summer menu, Captain Baxter Executive Chef (Matt Dawson, who's also co-owner, together with Angela Dawson and Tom Doolan) served up scrumptious offerings such as their version of Bo La Lot (beef in betel leaf with sriracha hot sauce) and soft shell tacos with pumpkin, black bean & feta, and jalapenos. No one left hungry. (Pics by Fiona Hamilton.)
