Melbourne Cup Carnival / Best Of

It's over. Another spring racing carnival done and dusted. But over the four days at Flemington for the Melbourne Cup Carnival, I did have my favourite moments. The awards go to....

Best Humbling Moment: At least Margot Robbie has not forgotten her roots. She was more than happy to reunite with her former Neighbours co-stars in the Swisse marquee. I think she might have let out a little squeal when she saw Tottie Goldsmith.

Best Dress: Lindy Klim in Dolce & Gabbana. It wasn't your typical racewear, but it was fun and colourful and incredibly beautiful. Yes, I would have liked a hat, but the Nicholas Kirkwood shoes were heaven. (in Lavazza)

Best racewear consistency: Jennifer  Hawkins. Again. Here in Maticevski paired with an Ann Shoebridge hat. She proves that less is more when it comes to racewear. At Myer.

Best attitude: Melanie Vallejo, here in Yeojin Bae and Kim Fletcher veil at the Myer Fashions on the Field enclosure. Just so much fun.

Best matching of decor. Was Emma Clapham aware of the Myer marquee when she got dressed that morning, in the same colour and similar cut-out Studio Aniss hat? Probably.

Best to watch: It's always fun to see milliner Richard Nylon walk around the racetrack, as he gets stopped by more people for a photo opp than Mickey Mouse at Disneyland. Here he is with Erin Petson, the UK illustrator brought out by Myer.

Best personality: Ashley Hart. Always a wide smile from ear to ear, she looked genuinely happy to be part of the Swisse marquee for a week. And her White Suede outfit was pretty gorgeous, too. (With Kerrie Stanley hat.)
Best extra: the Attica pop-up at Lexus. Wow.

Best international celebrity: this year, Gigi Hadid won over journalists and crowds alike. She came, she conquered, she looked the part, in an Alex Perry dress and Hatmaker headpiece. Race appropriate, age appropriate, no cut-outs - she smiled and chatted and was altogether delightful in Emirates.

Best hat: Hooray to Jill Humphries, who won the millinery award (worn by Bree Laughlin). A well-deserved win. (Here at Myer)

Best Fashions on the Field: The Design Award is cutting edge and shows some truly fabulous racewear. Anthony Capon (right) was the winner, but Jason Grech (above left,) and Craig Braybrook (below left) were the runners-up. Fabulous.

Best flouting of race rules: Cut outs? Yep. Imogen Anthony did not get her dress code guide.

Best dance party on Derby: Bambi Northwood-Blyth shakes her booty on the dance floor at Mumm. Lindy Klim and the Stenmark twins were doing the same.

Best photo (that I took): I love this snap of Richard Wilkins watching Chris Hemsworth at House of Walker
