The opening of Dream the World Awake, an exhibition of the work of Belgian fashion designer and visionary Walter Van Beirendonck at RMIT University, was the kind of affair you hope every fashion event would be: exuberant and enthusiastic with not a small touch of humour. There for the launch were guest of honour Beirendonck himself, Chris Dercon (the director of Tate Modern, London), Kate Debo (director and designer at Mode Museum, Antwerp) and Naomi Milgrom AO, whose philanthropic work allowed the exhibition to come to Australia from the Antwerp Fashion Museum. I didn't get the "dress crazy" memo - but wish I had.
